McKissack provided design services on multiple projects for the George H.W. Bush Foundation, scheduled for completion in mid-2021. McKissack provided design services for the Union Pacific 4141 engine, the engine that carried President George H.W. Bush's body following his death from Houston to College Station, Texas; Marine One Helicopter Pavilion; and Air Force 1 Hanger.
McKissack designed the outdoor pavilion that houses the Union Pacific 4141 locomotive that carried President George H.W. Bush’s body to his final resting place. It was brought to College Station, Texas, where it will be put on permanent display near the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum. The pavilion is designed as a minimal, open-air structure with a video and granite panel-inscribed wall. McKissack had previously designed the Marine One Helicopter Pavilion, a 20,000 SF extension of the museum’s exhibition space, which is an independent structure located at the shoreline of an existing water feature. The helicopter pavilion is exhibited in a glass-enclosed structure, which affords views of the aircraft from a variety of perspectives on the campus. The dining and reception component were designed to include extensive first- and second-floor terraces to take advantage of the lake and the picturesque College Station, Texas landscape.
