McKissack was a member of the design-build team that led the design and construction of the new U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters.
The project was for the U.S. General Services Administration and was built on the grounds of St. Elizabeths. McKissack was specifically responsible for design of the historic renovation of the Central Utility Plant building and two 7-story parking garages. In addition, the firm was responsible for quality assurance/quality control of the entire complex during the design and construction phases of the project. The headquarters achieved LEED Gold certification. The major axis of the headquarters building runs east/west to minimize solar heat gain and maximize the opportunity for daylight harvesting. It also features an approximately 400,000 SF green roof and a vegetative wall panel system in the courtyard.
