McKissack, under a joint venture partnership, was the program manager for the District of Columbia Public Schools modernization program.
The program’s commitment was to fully modernize all 123 elementary, middle and high school buildings, and related administrative and support facilities. Over approximately a 10-year period resulting in more than 12 million SF of newly constructed or renovated space. For this program, McKissack, under the name of DC Partners for the Revitalization of Education Projects (DC PEP), was responsible for implementing three initiatives: modernization of school facilities, renovation, and new building construction; stabilization of school facilities, including systematic replacement of building elements; and special projects, including athletic fields, recreation centers, and other associated facilities. Upon completion, DC PEP also worked to turnover the project to the building maintenance and operations staff.
